I will only write about the destination of this trip, the world-famous Lhasa landmark—the Potala Palace. Finally arriving here in person, standing below the palace and looking up, the grandeur of the architecture is magnificent, evoking a sense of awe. The courtyard below the Potala Palace is lush with plants, walking there feels refreshing and uplifting. This place has a long history, carrying profound cultural, religious, and political heritage. With the guide we hired, we learned more details about the history of the Potala Palace. Inside, almost every brick and wood is preserved from the past, along with the stunning giant spirit towers, the golden body of the Fifth Dalai Lama, and various solemn Buddha statues and rows of scriptures arranged to create a solemn scene, full of rich cultural atmosphere. 📜 The Potala Palace was originally built by Songtsen Gampo of the Tubo Kingdom to marry Princess Wencheng and Princess Chizun. Later, it became the winter residence of successive Dalai Lamas, a venue for major religious and political ceremonies, and a place to enshrine the spirit towers of past Dalai Lamas. In the old days, it served as the center of governance along with the office of the Amban (Qing imperial resident). [Cutlery] The first dinner in Lhasa was arranged by friends here in the courtyard inside the Potala Palace, in what used to be the Qiang warehouse of the palace. Upstairs in a hidden room, fully decorated in Tibetan style, a sumptuous meal was laid out on the table. It looked delicious but tasted just average.
