Danzhou's ancient salt fields have stood the test of time

The Yangpu ancient salt fields were created by the people of ancient Danzhou who polished and flattened pieces of volcanic rock to form salt fields. Each volcanic rock isn't very large and doesn't yield much salt, but lined up along the coast, they are a magnificent sight. The locals pour high-concentration brine onto the rocks to dry, producing salt that seasons their lives. Currently, the ancient salt fields are protected, and tourists are not allowed to enter for visits or play; they can only view from a distance. I saw many cacti growing well beside each volcanic rock, indicating that although the area is coastal, it is dominated by offshore winds and has a dry climate, which is very suitable for salt-making. Usually, salt is made in low-lying tidal flats, but the local terrain is not originally suitable for the salt industry. However, the wisdom of the ancient laboring people of Danzhou is boundless. They set their sights on these volcanic rocks and developed them into salt fields, which is truly admirable! Next to the salt fields, there are many stalls selling salt-baked chicken, the real Wenchang chicken baked with the produced salt, which is incredibly delicious and unforgettable to this day. I stayed in Danzhou for two days and bought it twice. Before leaving Danzhou for the Changjiang Shilu iron mine, I went out of my way to buy one more chicken. That noon, I set up a picnic table and chairs under a big tree at a bus stop by the roadside to have lunch. The aroma of the chicken meat caused the guard dog from the nearby factory to bark wildly in agitation.
