The Wind of the Northern Frontier (I) ~ Xilamuren Grassland

The convoy traveled thousands of miles northward and arrived at the beautiful Xilamuren Grassland. Maybe because it was my first time seeing the grassland and I happened to coincide with the grassland Nadam activities, which included wrestling, horse racing and archery, Mongolia's "Three Arts of Men" competition, I was a little excited, so I ran around, applauding the grassland boys' superb performances and taking pictures non-stop. Soon the sun set and I came to the edge of a Mongolian settlement’s territory. In the setting sun, herds of cattle and sheep are walking in the sky, the golden sunlight covers the yurts, and the endless grassland is as beautiful as a dream, making people intoxicated... At night, the grassland people presented Hada to each of us and lit a bonfire. The fragrance of flowers filled the air, the horse-head fiddle was singing softly, and we looked up at the starry sky, feeling that the stars were winking playfully above our heads. We drank milk wine, ate roasted whole lamb, and danced around the bonfire under the starry sky... We played until late at night and then returned to our yurts. Early the next morning, a convoy of people rushed to the next attraction in the morning light. Attractions: Xilamuren Grassland is located in Darhanmaomingan League Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Xilamuren means "Yellow River" in Mongolian. Xilamuren Grassland is commonly known as "Zhaohe" because there is a Qing Dynasty Lama Zhao Temple "Puhui Temple" on the bank of Xilamuren River. The temple was originally the summer palace of the Sixth Living Buddha of Xilituzhao in Hohhot and was built in the 34th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1769).
