Encounter the Beauty of Dali Tie-Dye Between Blue and White Upon arriving in Dali, stepping into a tie-dye shop, the air is filled with the fragrance of plants, instantly drawing me into the artistic world of Bai tie-dye. The owner warmly welcomes me and patiently explains the origin of tie-dye. This technique has been passed down through the Bai people for thousands of years and is a unique expression of their life and culture. The colors blue and white are simple and pure, yet they can transform into infinite patterns, telling the Bai people's love for nature and life. The experience begins with pure cotton white cloth, cotton thread, and dyes laid out in front of me. I learn to fold, wrap, and tie the cloth with cotton thread. This process is not simple, and there is attention to the strength and technique. Every fold and every circle of cotton thread is a conception of the final pattern, and I look forward to it blooming in the dye vat in a unique way. The tied cloth is slowly immersed in the indigo dye, and the cloth greedily absorbs the color. While waiting, my heart also rises and falls with the cloth in the dye vat. The moment the cloth is taken out, the blue halo spreads out, like a mysterious underwater world, or a dreamy starry sky. The tension and surprise of unveiling the mystery when dismantling the thread is hard to express. Looking at my own unique tie-dye work, a sense of accomplishment arises spontaneously.
