Went to check in at Yanmen Pass alone, but reality taught me a lesson 😭 As a history enthusiast, I have long wanted to see Yanmen Pass, the foremost of the "Nine Great Passes of the World." After visiting the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda in the morning, I excitedly took the tourist shuttle bus straight there. But when I arrived, I found that Yanmen Pass was quite desolate in the off-season... 📍Address: National Highway 208, Daixian, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province ⏰Opening Hours: Summer (April to October) 8:00-17:30 Winter (November to March) 8:30-17:00 Personal sincere advice: 1. Be sure to come during the peak season! The off-season has too few visitors, and the atmosphere is much less vibrant. 2. The Great Wall itself is rather ordinary; it’s better to explore it with the historical background in mind for a deeper experience. 3. Wear comfortable shoes; climbing the Great Wall is quite physically demanding. 4. There are tour guides in the scenic area; it’s recommended to hire one who deeply understands the history. Although this experience was average, standing on the Great Wall still lets you feel the weight of history. Imagining the scene of the Yang family generals guarding the border back then adds a special flavor. Next time, I will definitely come again during the peak season to experience the magnificent scene of continuous beacon fires!
