Dongfanghong Reservoir The Yubei Dongfanghong Reservoir is located in the 7th community of Zhongjian Village, Shuangfengqiao Subdistrict, Yubei District, Chongqing, next to the Chongqing Industry Polytechnic College. Built in 1966 and completed in 1979, the reservoir's dam is a concrete-faced rockfill dam, 32.36 meters high and 147 meters long. It is a comprehensive reservoir mainly used for irrigation, but also for water supply, flood control, power generation, and fish farming. In terms of transportation, you can take Rail Transit Line 3 to Konggang Square Station, then transfer to Bus No. 622 and get off at Industry Polytechnic College Station, followed by a short walk. You can also drive there: the route is Downtown—Airport Road—Taoyuan Avenue—Minxiu Road—Dongfanghong Reservoir. The reservoir is a free attraction. In addition to its basic water conservancy functions, it is also a good place for recreation. The air is fresh, and there are clean and tidy dams and walkways, suitable for strolling. You can have picnics in the surrounding area. Every year during the flood season, a large amount of water carries sediment and gushes out, forming a spectacular waterfall, similar to a "mini Hukou Waterfall" in Yubei. During the non-flood season, the water flow is like silk and jade, offering beautiful scenery. In addition, the area below the dam is a free spot for lure and platform fishing. In September 2024, the Yubei District Development and Reform Commission of Chongqing approved the project for water environment protection and restoration in the Pingtan River Basin (Dongfanghong Reservoir). Construction is scheduled to start in June 2025, with a construction period of 24 months. The project includes comprehensive water environment treatment, environmentally friendly dredging of reservoir sediment, restoration of riparian zones, construction of ecological buffer zones, and establishment of aquatic ecosystems, with an estimated total investment of CNY 48 million.
