Chongqing Travel｜A Perfect Blend of Hot Springs and Ancient Temples: Beibei Hot Spring Temple

Beibei has the North Hot Springs, and within the North Hot Springs lies the Hot Spring Temple! The temple is a branch of Jinyun Temple. Geographically, the ascent of the mountain would have begun here. Below the temple is the Jialing River, with Jin Gang Bei not far away, and Zhang Fei Ancient Road just across the river. The temple itself isn't very large, consisting of a main hall, two side halls, a front hall, a rear hall, and a new reception hall. Unusually, the reception hall features Guan Yu and the Heng and Ha generals, rather than the traditional Maitreya Buddha and the Four Heavenly Kings. Veda's weapon points downwards, indicating that this is a smaller temple. There's also a historical anecdote: when Hechuan Diaoyu Fortress resisted the Mongol army and defeated Möngke Khan, the injured Khan retreated here and eventually died at Hot Spring Temple. Throughout history, both ancient and modern, many writers and scholars have visited this place, leaving behind their mark. Beside the temple, there's a collection of stone carvings and a stele forest. It seems somewhat neglected due to a previous lack of preservation, but the historical significance is palpable. There's also a small pond directly in front of the main hall. The fish inside swim freely and joyfully. Their vibrant colors and large size suggest they are well-fed. Combined with the fresh air, it's truly invigorating! Travel Tips 1️⃣ Vegetarian meals are available with four dishes and a soup, priced based on "yuanfen" (serendipity), typically CNY 10 per person via scan-to-pay. Silence is observed in the dining hall, with men and women seated separately. After the meal, diners wash their own dishes. The food is surprisingly delicious. Start queuing around 11:20 am. 2️⃣ Wild hot springs are located along the riverside walkway. There are two paths from the parking lot: the left leads to Hot Spring Temple, and the right to the riverside walkway. It's just a few minutes' walk. Remember to bring tissues or a towel to dry your feet. The water temperature here is slightly higher than the wild hot springs across the river at Zhang Fei Ancient Road. 3️⃣ Spring water is available outside Hot Spring Temple, a few hundred meters towards Beibei. Search for "Deshan Spring" on your navigation app. Parking is available at a bend in the road. You'll know you're in the right place when you see many people collecting water.
