2024 Chongqing Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in September)
Chongqing is renown in China for being a "mountain city". The brilliant nightscape of the town is equally as famous. The whole city is constructed on the tall peaks, low valleys and sloping hills of the mountainside. Many skyscrapers have an upper, middle and lower ground level entrance. When strolling about the downtown area, visitors will find themselves walking uphill and downhill along the undulating terrain of the streets. Central Chongqing is located at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. It is also one of the important Yangtze River ports. The port itself has created its own kind of local culture. It can be said that the people here are similar to their favorite hotpot meal, a bit hot and spicy, and perhaps a bit prone to fiery outbursts. Leaving central Chongqing, there is an abundance of natural and cultural sites of interest. For example, visitors can see amazing geological wonders like the Heavenly Pit—the world's deepest sinkhole. There are also ancient relics and structures at places like Baidicheng Temple Complex or Diaoyu Fortress.

Chongqing: The Mountain City of Lights and Flavor
Chongqing has absolutely blown me away! Known as the “Mountain City,” this place is a vibrant mix of dazzling cityscapes, rich history, and mouth-watering cuisine. Every corner of Chongqing seems to offer something new and exciting.
One of the highlights of my trip was experiencing the city at night. The skyline, with its skyscrapers illuminated in colorful lights, is nothing short of mesmerizing. Walking along the Yangtze River, the reflection of the lights on the water creates a surreal, almost dreamlike atmosphere. And let’s not forget the Hongya Cave – a must-visit spot that looks like something straight out of a fairytale, especially when it’s all lit up after dark.
Of course, no trip to Chongqing is complete without diving into its legendary hotpot. The spice level is not for the faint of heart, but it’s a culinary experience you simply can’t miss. The flavors are intense, bold, and uniquely Chongqing.
Whether you’re exploring the historic sites, taking in the stunning views, or just savoring the local cuisine, Chongqing is a city that leaves a lasting impression. I can’t wait to come back!#chongqing #mountaincity#cityoflight

Authentic Old Chongqing famous Delicacy Hotpot 🍲
#localfood
Have hot pot today
Authentic old Chongqing warm nine-gria hot pot, eating while chatting, down-to-earth
chose
It's all small dishes, just right for 1-2 people. You can order more vegetarian dishes for $3/plate and meat dishes for $6/plate.
Highly recommended
Goose intestines: seven up and eight downs, invincible crisp and refreshing
Frog legs: full and tender meat, fat frog legs, I'm dazzling alone, can't eat Be enough
The 9 grids I chose at the bottom of the pot are slightly spicy. One of them is boiled with black tea without spicy oil. It is said that it can better stimulate the fragrance.
If it becomes more and more spicy after cooking, it will also relieve the spiciness a little bit.
Recommend a really unpopular temple around Chongqing 🇨🇳
#ancientbuildings
At the foot of Dingming Mountain in Tongnan, Chongqing I found a thousand-year-old temple.
This place was originally named "Dingmingyuan", also known as "Nanchan Temple", and then it was renamed
"Big Buddha Temple" because the Song Dynasty chiseled a big Buddha in the temple.
The morning light shines for the first time, and the ancient trees are towering.
Step into the door of this thousand-year-old temple In my ears, the melodious bells and the monk's low singing of the heart was instantly washed clear and clear.
A Buddha statue is solemn and compassionate
Standing still after wind and rain
Each one carries the prayers and hopes of the believers.
The sun sets and looks far away.
The lights are dim in the city.
The Great Buddha Temple quietly guards this land and witnesses the changes of history and the change of the times-
Chongqing actually has such a cool place
A great place to escape the heat, not only beautiful but also cool, about 100km from the main city, and it takes about 2 hours to drive there. The scenery along the way is very nice~
🌟Main attractions and activities:
🔹Photo spots: The scenery in the park is pleasant, especially suitable for photography enthusiasts.
🔹Camping experience: It is recommended to go into the forest, it's super cool! The large grassland is very crowded and has no shade, so if you want to camp, come early to get a spot!
🔹Tianchi tour: It is recommended to go to Tianchi for photos. Although it is an artificial lake, the scenery is very beautiful, and the view of Tianchi changes with the sunlight.
🔹Renting small cars: You can rent cute little cars, just scan the code, 50 yuan for 30 minutes, you can circle twice in 30 minutes, very enjoyable.
✅Ticket and parking information:
🔹Adult tickets are 40 yuan, which can be purchased in advance on major websites.
🔹Tickets for elderly (60-64 years old) and children (120cm-140cm) are 20 yuan, free for those over 65 years old.
🔹Parking fee is 5 yuan per day.
✅Accommodation and dining
🔹You can choose to stay in Yoga Valley, which is close to the south gate of Wuling Mountain Forest Park.
🔹Tianyu Hotel is close to Tianchi.
🔹There are places to stay and eat inside the park.
✅Travel tips:
🔹It is recommended to bring a light jacket, as it may be a bit cold in the forest without sunlight.
🔹The park allows self-driving entry. If you are not camping overnight, you can also bring your own outdoor folding chairs and hammocks.

Traveling during summer August , quite a bit hot but night view in Chongqing is best.
Expect: long queues, crowded everywhere, traffic
Didi is the best option to go around
1949 grand theatre is a must watch!
Hotpot
Kuixing building and liziba did not wow me, but it's just me.
River cableway is a good experience except that queue is long and trip was quite short
Ciqikuo is one of the best places I've been to! The foods are sumptuous
As a foreigner, having WeChat would save you from getting lost haha, the front desk at every hotel are very friendly and helpful guide especially at Fungee hotel. #chongqing #china
Fourth visit to Xiahao! It's perfect for citywalk! (With guide)
📍Exit 1 of Shangxin Street Metro Station
As soon as you come out, you can see the 'This is Chongqing' check-in wall.
Next to it is Milin Papa Croissant. I personally tested their croissants, and they are great.😋
Then cross this small square, it's all downhill from here, saving time and effort✔️
Walk all the way to the waterfall, you can sit at the nearby 🍹Pomegranate Coffee.
Drinking coffee facing the waterfall, it should be unique to Chongqing.
The taste of desserts and drinks is also good💯
The nearby Three Spoon Sugar Water🍧 is relatively ordinary in my opinion, but the cost performance is okay.
Then there's the most beautiful spot in the first picture📷!!
It's on the hillside next to the waterfall, opposite Pomegranate Coffee, the place with the most people.
The night view is really beautiful✨
You can also take pictures on the small bridge, it has a Jiangnan feel.
The 🥢Qiyuan BBQ next door is also good, the window seats are very comfortable~
Overall, Xiahao is not as commercialized as other popular scenic spots.
There are many interesting small shops, very suitable for citywalk🚶
It's my favorite old street in Chongqing!!
A magical and charming city
Chongqing, a magical and charming city.
It is like a three-dimensional painting, slowly unfolding between the mountains and rivers. The Jialing River and the Yangtze River converge here, and the rushing waters endow the city with endless vitality.
Hongya Cave, with its layers of stilted buildings, is brilliantly lit at night, as if one has traveled to the fantastical world of Spirited Away. The warm yellow lights reflect on the river, creating a dreamlike scene.
Jiefangbei, the landmark building of Chongqing, has witnessed the city's changes and development. Surrounding it are bustling commercial streets, filled with the atmosphere of a modern metropolis.
The winding paths of the mountain city offer a unique charm as you stroll through them. On one side are ancient buildings, and on the other, the diverse aspects of everyday life.
From the top of Nanshan, you can overlook the entire city of Chongqing. The neatly arranged skyscrapers, the ceaseless flow of traffic, and the night scene adorned with lights are all mesmerizing.
Ciqikou Ancient Town, with its bluestone roads bearing the marks of time, and its quaint shops emitting bursts of fragrance, makes one feel as if they have traveled back in time.
Chongqing's transportation is also a unique sight. The cableways crossing the rivers and the light rail weaving between buildings offer novel and exciting experiences.
And then there is the spicy and flavorful hotpot, with its smoky aroma permeating the streets and alleys, allowing everyone who comes to Chongqing to feel the city's warmth and generosity.
Chongqing has both the agility of mountains and rivers and the prosperity of a metropolis; it has the sediment of history and the vitality of modernity. It is a place full of charm and surprises, waiting for you to discover its every wonder. Let's step into Chongqing, appreciate the unique scenery of this mountain city, and feel its heat and passion. Chongqing always exudes its unique allure.
Chongqing will tame every stubborn person, it's already hot and honest
Honestly, I really don't recommend everyone to come to Chongqing in July and August
Because it's 35+°C every day
It's really really really hot 🥵
But since everyone is here, you have to go out and take a walk
-
In the morning, try to choose nearby attractions to stroll around and take pictures
Go back to the hotel to rest and take a nap at noon
Go out to find food and take pictures in the afternoon when the sun sets
After all, the night view of Chongqing is the most beautiful, isn't it?
-
As for accommodation, I highly recommend staying near Jiefangbei
Because it's close to everywhere!!
For example, the hotel I stayed at this time is very nice 👍🏻
It's a newly opened hotel, clean and hygienic, with super enthusiastic service
It's very close to Hongya Cave, Jiefangbei, Shibati,
Yangtze River Cableway, Shangxin Street and other places
You can get there at the starting price of a taxi
And it's a river view room with a super wide view!
You can save more time to sleep~
-
As for food, there's no need to eat things near the scenic spots
You can find community stores to eat authentic Chongqing hot pot
Find an inconspicuous restaurant to experience Jianghu cuisine
Just find a roadside shop to have Chongqing noodles or something
There's really no need to check in at a specific store
Otherwise, you'll waste time and be hot as a dog!!!!!!!
-
As for clothing, everyone must bring cool clothes, pants, and skirts
Comfortable walking shoes, a sun hat (or umbrella) to carry with you
Always remember to apply sunscreen
Try to wear a sun-protective shirt, and take it off when taking pictures

Chongqing Jiefangbei Hotel! River view! With top spray
After a long search with friends, we finally found our ideal hotel!
It's right next to Linjiangmen Metro Station, about a 5-minute walk from Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, Kuixing Tower, and Guotai Grand Theater. It's really super convenient, and you can enjoy a beautiful river view from the bed. The hotel is super new, so it's really clean, and the key point is that the bathroom has a top spray!
The service from booking to check-in and check-out was excellent, and the overall soundproofing is also good. There is also a dedicated laundry room where you can wash and dry clothes, so you don't have to worry about the rainy season.
Chongqing Shopping Park
I arrived in Chongqing. It feels similar to Singapore, but the shopping malls in Chongqing are truly amazing! It's the first time I've encountered a shopping mall that looks like a tropical rainforest. It's like shopping in green nature with air conditioning.
Guanghuan Shopping Park offers fresh air with about 1500 negative ions/cm in the urban forest through its three main themed landscapes: 'Tree of Life,' 'Valleys and Hills,' and 'Aerial Forest.' With the dynamic forces of 'Natural Growth' and 'Free Breathing,' it awakens the most primal and genuine comfort in people. The park creatively incorporates the 'Wuguang Forest,' a rare 'botanical garden' in a commercial complex, achieving a true fusion of commerce and nature. This creates an 'ecological' shopping space.
The 'Wuguang Forest' spans 6 floors (from B1 to L5) and features a vertical landscape that is 42 meters high, including about 300 species of tropical rainforest plants. It has three main themed scenes: 'Tree of Life,' 'Secrets of the Sky,' and 'Flower Waterfall Valley,' along with 12 interactive photo zones. The ground, sky bridge, wind bridge, and observation passageways fully connect the commercial shopping areas, creating a seamless flow of customers.

Of course, weekends are for relaxing and having fun with my girlfriends~.
After working for a week, I'm physically and mentally exhausted.
Taking advantage of the free time on the weekend,
I made an appointment with my girlfriends to relax at Golden Impression.
I didn't expect that there's now a plus store!!
And it's near my home~ just a few hundred meters away by foot.
The privacy in the spa room is excellent,
with dim lighting and soothing music,
making you relax involuntarily.
The masseuse's technique is professional.
According to my needs, they even prepared a calming essential oil for me.
Because I often feel uncomfortable in my neck from staring at the computer,
they specially massaged my cervical spine for a while longer.
The whole process took about an hour.
Afterwards, I felt refreshed, like I came back to life.
~
After the spa, I went to the self-service tea restaurant to order food.
Various fruits and snacks are unlimited.
And recently, they introduced new rice bowls! And my favorite spicy and sour noodles.
I ordered a whole table full.
It's truly my happy place!! I'll come again next time.

Chongqing! I can't believe there's such a beautiful place!
Located in Wuling Mountain Forest Park, it takes two and a half hours to reach from the main city. The scenery is amazing! Blue skies, white clouds, lakes, grasslands, flower seas, forests, for a moment it feels like being in Switzerland. There are many camping bases inside, and many people camp on the grasslands. The temperature up there is more than ten degrees lower than in the urban area, making it very suitable for summer to escape the heat, but during the day when there is sun, it can still be very hot. It's cooler under the shade of the trees. Personally, I really like the No. 2 Tianchi, it's very beautiful! Great for taking photos!!

Whether you look up at the sky, down at the ground, gaze into the distance, or focus on the nearby scenery, you can move at your own pace and follow your heart. This place offers me the gift of freedom. I come, therefore I am; I am, therefore I gain; I gain, therefore I am happy; I am happy, therefore I remember. The winding mountain paths and the little moments touch my heart. How beautiful it is, making this trip worthwhile.
Chongqing Homestay | I rarely use the word 'stunning' to describe a homestay
| I rarely use the word 'stunning' to describe a homestay. Ajie has been to many places and seen many sceneries, but he rarely uses the word 'stunning' to describe a homestay.
🛖Homestay Environment: The geometric-shaped building, with its white walls and irregular windows, looks like something out of a game world, and I felt like I had stepped into a game world.
The homestay is located on top of a mountain. Just as we arrived, it started to rain. After the rain, mist enveloped the entire homestay. At that moment, night fell, and the lights of the homestay turned on, making the whole square look like a rising sun.
At that moment, I was truly speechless by the stunning scene. Who was so creative to make the homestay's lighting reach the next level?
🛕Homestay Name: Xanadu · Chongchong Mountain Homestay
🚗Homestay Address: No. 6, Wutong Village, Anlan Town, Banan District, Chongqing. It takes about 90 minutes to drive here from downtown Chongqing.
💡Indoor Environment: The rooms in the homestay are named after poems, and you can feel the attention to detail in every corner of the building.
It is worth mentioning that almost all the windows inside are huge floor-to-ceiling windows and irregularly shaped windows. Looking out, you see forests 🌲, making you feel like you are living in the trees. The privacy is excellent, perfectly blending with nature.
The homestay also has several unique treehouses, which are identical to those in Northern Europe, Sweden. Now you don't have to go to Northern Europe to check them out. The treehouses are lofts with three floors. The first floor has a sauna pool, the second floor has a master bedroom with a huge floor-to-ceiling window. When it rains and the lights are on, I can sit by the window and daydream all day. The third floor is a children's room, and at night, you can open the skylight to see the stars. I really love it!!
🌲The homestay also has various fun and hidden spaces, such as a lookout tower, a wedding square with a sun lamp, Doraemon's Anywhere Door entrance space, and stairs where you are on the second floor, but you will never meet. These special experiences can only be felt by visiting yourself.
In the cyberpunk Chongqing, I found such a pure land
Chongqing, a city that I deeply love
For most people, its synonym is cyberpunk🔮
But for me, I love its culture and history more
Here, I found such a hidden gem in the hustle and bustle of the city
·
Near the Liberation Monument and Hongya Cave, there's the Luohan Temple⛩
Although it is located in the city center
It seems to have its own rhythm🚶
Carving out a corner in the busy city center
The collision of ancient and modern creates a strong contrast
·
Inside, you can visit the Grand Hall, Ancient Buddha Rock, Sutra Tower, and the Five Hundred Arhats
The temple has four main Buddha halls
The architecture of the halls and courtyards is exquisite
What surprised me even more were the murals
The depicted birds and beasts🐲 are all lifelike
·
📸Photo spots:
The archway, Ancient Buddha Rock, Heart Sutra Wall
·
📍Luohan Temple, Chongqing
🚗Transportation: Take the subway to Xiaoshizi and exit from Gate 6
·
The temple's⛩ incense is thriving
Upon entering, you can receive incense sticks and even get a stamp
It is said to be very effective for wealth-seeking🤫
