Chongqing Highway 'Zero Kilometer' Point - Chaotianmen Square

Chaotianmen Square, located at the Chaotianmen Dock in Yuzhong District of Chongqing, is the water gateway of Chongqing. This place, where two rivers converge and surrounded by mountains on three sides, is majestic. The name 'Chongqing Chaotianmen Square' was personally inscribed by Jiang Zemin, who was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China at the time. In 1891, when Chongqing was opened as a commercial port, Chaotianmen began to establish a customs office. In 1927, in order to build the Chaotianmen Dock, the old city gate was demolished. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Dai Ding expanded the old city of Chongqing. During this process, he built 17 city gates according to the numerology of the Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams, among which the largest was Chaotianmen. The gate originally had four large characters inscribed on it: 'Ancient Yuzhong's Majestic Pass'. This gate was built along the eastward-flowing Yangtze River, facing the imperial capital Nanjing, to welcome the imperial envoys and receive imperial decrees, hence the name 'Chaotianmen'. To the left of Chaotianmen is the Jialing River, which flows into the Yangtze River here. Passing through the Three Gorges and connecting to the Han River, it stretches for thousands of miles, forming the 'golden water section' of the Yangtze River.
