Red Mountain in Chifeng is located in the northeast corner of the Red Mountain District of Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. Red Mountain in Mongolian is "Ulan Hada", where Ulan means red and Hada means mountain peak. The name Chifeng also comes from "Ulan Hada". The Red Mountain culture is named after the Red Mountain in Chifeng City. The Red Mountain culture originated in the southwest of the Northeast. It started five or six thousand years ago and was distributed in the Rehe area in the west of the Northeast, from the central and southern parts of Inner Mongolia to the north, to the north of Hebei in the south, and to the west of Liaoning in the east, and the upper reaches of the Xilamulun River and the Laohe River in the Liaohe River Basin. There are densely distributed Red Mountain cultural sites in the territory of Aohan Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, which is considered to be the core area where the upper social rulers lived during the Red Mountain culture period, witnessing the entire process of the Red Mountain culture's gestation, formation, development and evolution. The earliest discovery of the Red Mountain culture remains was in 1921. In 1935, the site behind Red Mountain in the eastern suburbs of Chifeng was excavated, and the name of the Red Mountain culture was proposed in 1954. Since the 1970s, large-scale archaeological surveys have been carried out in the Zhaowudameng (now Chifeng City) and Chaoyang areas in the northwest of Liaoxi, and nearly a thousand sites have been discovered. Large-scale excavations have been carried out on the site groups of Lingyuan and Kazuo Dongshanzui in Jianping Niuhe Liang in the Songling Mountains and Nuluerhu Mountain, bringing the study of the Red Mountain culture into a new stage.
