Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai Province 🙏Originally named Wat Pa Yia, but in 1977, lightning struck an abandoned pagoda, and a gold-lacquered Buddha image was found inside. Later, the lacquer peeled off, and it was discovered that it was a green Buddha image made of jade, which was the Emerald Buddha. After that, the Emerald Buddha was invited to be enshrined in various places, starting from Lampang, Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Thonburi, and Bangkok. 🙏The ordination hall is a Chiang Saen-style chapel, low and with a low sloping roof. There is a principal Buddha image in the ordination hall called Phra Chao Lan Thong, a bronze Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture. It originally belonged to Wat Lan Thong, but was demolished, so it was invited to be the principal Buddha image here. It is considered the largest and most beautiful Buddha image in the Sippala style in Thailand. 🙏The pagoda has an octagonal base covered with copper sheets. Above the base is an inverted lotus with two layers of glass balls, and above that is an upright lotus. The top of the pagoda is a nine-tiered structure.
