Famous rice porridge shop in Chiang Rai

#summerdream J. Charoen Chai – This dinner rice soup shop in Chiang Rai city has been on the old airport road for almost 40 years, and has become quite famous... It has been around for this long even though the shop is not particularly beautiful and not air-conditioned... so you can be sure that the food is not bad. **-Location/Atmosphere-** Walking: The shop is located in the heart of Chiang Rai city. From the Night Bazaar, if you walk along Phemawipat Road, cross Chet Yot Road, and walk diagonally to the right onto the road next to the Krungthong Hotel until you reach Sanambin Road, you will see the shop on the opposite side. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk. Car: If you drive from the clock tower, go straight towards Wat Ming Muang intersection and turn left. In less than 200 meters, you will see the shop on the right. It is a commercial building on the side of the road. In front of the shop is the area where food is prepared, just like other rice soup shops. The shop sign is hung a little high up. The shop does not have parking, so you have to park on the side of the road. The atmosphere of the shop is simply like a normal roadside shop, but it is a bit bigger. Probably because they have to accommodate a lot of customers. From what I saw, the restaurant is almost full by 5 pm on weekdays. If you go during peak hours like 7.30-8 pm or during festivals, you might have to wait in line or wait for a table to be available. **-Menu I tried-** ➡️ Braised Duck – The duck meat is quite tender. The deliciousness comes from the rich braised sauce that has been absorbed into the duck meat very well. Even though there is a thick layer of duck skin, it is not too greasy because the skin is soft and tender, and the braised sauce gives it a rich flavor. I really like this dish. ➡️ Chop Chai – It is quite ordinary. The sauce is still clear as if it has not been stewed properly, so the flavor is not as rich as it should be. ➡️ Stir-fried Eggplant – This dish is stir-fried to be incredibly delicious, worthy of being a recommended menu. The eggplant pieces are soft but not mushy. The stir-fried flavor is rich and well-rounded, with a slight spiciness from fresh chilies to make it bubbly. Minced pork is added to make it even better. Stir-fried with a smoky aroma, I really like it. ➡️ Stir-fried minced pork with fresh chili – Minced pork stir-fried with eggplant, cherry tomato, fresh chili, basil leaves, lime leaves, ginger, galangal.. Just looking + smelling the stir-fried aroma, you can feel the spicy heat that makes your mouth water. When you try it, the taste is not disappointing at all. Although it is spicy, it is seasoned to be well-balanced and not distorted.
