Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, an ancient temple of Lanna

This Phra That Chedi Luang is considered the tallest chedi in the North. Phra That Chedi Luang is considered an important chedi because it was built according to the cosmological beliefs of the Lawa people, which were combined with the beliefs of the Brahmins, using Phra That Chedi Luang as a symbol of the center of the universe. This can be clearly seen from the construction of the chedi Luang, which is tall and located in the center of the city, just like Mount Sumeru, which is the center of the universe. Later, in 2088 during the reign of Queen Mahadevi Chiraprabha, a major earthquake occurred, causing the top of the chedi to collapse. Only half of the body remains as seen in the current image. It was then abandoned for more than 4 centuries. Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan was declared an ancient site on March 8, 1935, and the Fine Arts Department completed the renovation in 1992.
