Breakfats with the elephants

We enjoyed the half-day Elephant Caretaker Experience at The Chai Lai Orchid, and it was incredible! Alex was our guide, and he did an excellent job of introducing us to the elephants and directing us through our forest trek, which included feeding and bathing them. He also made us laugh and snapped incredible photographs with our phones. His English was excellent, and communication was simple. The fact that these elephants were rescued from awful conditions and rehabilitated compassionately at Chai Lai Orchid added to the great experience. The elephants are not allowed to be ridden, but that did not detract from our enjoyment of the experience! It is far more vital to know that the elephants are well-cared for and not abused. Stay in the Chai Lai Orchid Bungalows if you have the chance, so you can wake up and enjoy breakfast with the elephants! The bungalows are charmingly rustic, and the surroundings are breathtaking.
