With a perimeter of 4.2km, it is a representative defensive site from the Joseon Dynasty. It is said to have originated from Sangdang County (上黨縣) of Baekje during the Three Kingdoms period. The current stone walls were extensively constructed during the reign of King Sukjong (1716-1723), following the Imjin War. The exceptionally well-preserved walls have earned it the designation of Historic Site No. 212. The walls stand approximately 3-4m high, and the main gates, including the East Gate (Jindongmun), West Gate (Mihomun), and South Gate (Gongnammun), as well as the perfectly restored corner towers and guard towers, offer a vivid glimpse into the Joseon Dynasty's fortification techniques.
