Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan is an ancient temple of Chachoengsao. It is the place where Luang Pho Sothon, a Buddha image that has been revered by the people of Paet Riew and people from all over the country since ancient times, is enshrined. It is located on the road about 2 kilometers from the city center market. This temple was originally a temple for the common people, built towards the end of the Ayutthaya period. According to history, it was originally called “Wat Hong” because there was a “Swan Pillar” in the temple, a tall pillar with a swan on top. Later, the swan on top of the pillar broke off, leaving only the pillar, and someone hung a flag instead, so it was called “Wat Sao Thong”. When the flagpole broke into two pieces, it was renamed “Wat Sao Thong Thon”. The name “Wat Sothon”, which means “pure” and “sacred”, is named after Phra Phuttha Sothon or Luang Pho Sothon, who was enshrined in this temple. Later, Wat Sothon was bestowed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
