QUICK ESCAPE ABOVE CEBU: MT. KANG-IRAG

For those looking for an easy yet rewarding hike near Cebu City, Mt. Kang-Irag (700m) is the perfect destination. Located in Busay, Cebu, this mountain offers a short but scenic trail that leads to breathtaking 360-degree views of the city, Mactan Island, and the lush mountains of Cebu. With nothing planned for the weekend, I decided on a spontaneous day hike to Mt. Kang-Irag—a refreshing break from the city’s hustle. The first part of the trail was a mix of dirt roads and grassy slopes. I took my time, enjoying the quietness of the forest and the occasional cool breeze. The terrain gradually became steeper, and some sections had loose rocks, but nothing too difficult. About halfway through, the trail opened into vast grassy hills, similar to Batanes. The sun was blazing, and without much tree cover, I could feel the heat. Sunscreen, a cap, and lots of water were lifesavers! Despite the heat, I took a moment to admire the landscape—rolling hills, wildflowers, and the city skyline far below. It was one of those moments where I felt grateful to live in Cebu, with nature just a short ride away. After about 1.5 to 2 hours, I reached the summit, where a large, rocky peak awaited. Climbing to the top, I was rewarded with a panoramic view of Cebu City, Mactan, and even parts of Balamban. I sat on the rocks, took a deep breath, and enjoyed the peaceful silence. It felt surreal to be so close to the city yet completely removed from the chaos. After snapping a few photos and having a quick snack, I just sat there, appreciating the solitude. Mt. Kang-Irag may not be the tallest peak, but it’s a perfect quick escape for nature lovers and solo adventurers. The combination of easy trails, stunning views, and accessibility makes it one of Cebu’s best day hikes.
