The University of Sydney was established in 1850, and it is the first university in Oceania and the Southern Hemisphere. Many tourists visit the University of Sydney mainly to check in at The Quadrangle, the 'Harry Potter' main building of the university. This castle-like building, constructed in 1855, is one of the iconic structures of the University of Sydney. It follows the tradition and elements of British universities, adorned with portraits and initials of Queen Victoria and the Prince, the royal motto, crowns, and the Tudor dynasty's roses. The Quadrangle is nicknamed the 'Harry Potter' building because of its resemblance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 'Harry Potter'. In fact, the filming location for 'Harry Potter' was Durham Cathedral in the UK, not here. Another anecdote worth mentioning is that there was originally a Jacaranda tree planted in 1928 at the right corner of the Quadrangle. It was said that anyone hit by its falling flowers would fail their exams. The tree was blown down in 2016, and the one standing now is a replant. The scenery of the University of Sydney is not limited to the Quadrangle.
