Beomeosa Temple (Busan) is a great place to experience Zen and purify your soul.

Fanyu Temple is located on the hillside east of Geumjeong Mountain. It was founded by Master Yixiang in the 18th year of King Munmu of Silla (678 AD). It is one of the three major temples in Lingnan and one of the ten temples of Huayan Sect. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the entrance to reach the first gate of Fanyu Temple, Caoxi Gate, also known as the One-Pillar Gate. During the walk, you will pass the second gate, Cheonwang Gate, which is also the main gate, and then the third gate of the temple, Buer Gate. Finally, you will pass through Puji Tower and arrive at the square of the temple. Crossing the square is the Main Hall. The Great Hall enshrines statues of Sakyamuni Buddha and other Buddhas and is the tallest Buddhist hall in Fanyu Temple. There are also bell tower, Eight-phase Hall, Dusheng Hall, Arhat Hall and Ksitigarbha Hall in the square. In the temple, the master beats the wooden fish and chants with the believers. The Zen atmosphere can be felt everywhere. It is a good place to purify the soul. Beomeosa Temple is the most famous spot for viewing autumn maple leaves in Busan. Although I came here in winter, I still saw different views of the mountains and forests. It is worth a visit. Opening hours: 08:00–17:30, open all year round, free admission. Transportation tips: Take subway line 1 (orange line) to Beomeosa Station (범어사역/133), take exit 5 or 7, walk toward the mountain and take bus number 90 at the bus stop.
