Xinjiang | Winter in Kanas Hemu Village

The winter wonderland of Kanas Hemu Village I was born and raised in Urumqi, but it's been nearly ten years since I last visited Kanas. I always feel that Kanas is beautiful in different ways throughout the year, and I should experience it in every season. 💰Kanas Scenic Area ticket: CNY 110/person, Hailati's homestay: CNY 240/day, Burqin to Hemu Village: CNY 200/person There are three ways to get to Hemu Village from Urumqi: 🚗 Self-driving: The whole journey takes more than ten hours, not including the time for checking and resting at each stop. The roads are slippery in winter, and you may encounter roads that have not been cleared of snow. This is one of the reasons why you need an off-road vehicle. However, the scenery along the way is beautiful, and you can feel the vastness of the country. (Our original plan) 🚄 Train: From Urumqi to Beitun; Long-distance bus: From Urumqi to Altay or Burqin. There are no buses to the mountains in winter, but you can carpool. ✈️ Flight: Urumqi to Altay takes 1 hour. Kanas Airport is closed in winter, and the nearest airport is Altay Airport. From Altay, you can charter a car to Hemu Village via Burqin. (Our final choice) 📷 For photography enthusiasts, there is no need for any entertainment here because you can't get enough of taking photos. However, not everyone who comes here is a photographer, so let's talk about the experiences you can't miss. 🛷 Horse-drawn sled: You can choose to take a sled to the viewing platform to watch the sunrise and the smoke rising from the chimneys. 🐎 Horseback riding in the snow: When the snow on the street is waist-deep, you will envy the Kazakhs who ride past you on horseback. ⛄️ Building a snowman: We swore on the road that we would build this and that, but in the end, we were too cold to build anything. Skiing: This is different from a ski resort. You just need a board. Local children can ski with an icicle under their feet.
