"Chinda Falls" A powerful and historic waterfall located in the middle reaches of the Ono River that flows through Oita Prefecture. Sesshu, a famous ink-wash artist active during the Muromachi period, saw the majestic figure of this waterfall and painted it as "Chinda Falls"! The history of the waterfall Long ago, this waterfall was located about 240m downstream from its current location, but repeated erosion and collapse due to the force of water caused the waterfall to gradually move upstream. In 1909, the remains of the Chinda Power Plant began operating as a hydroelectric power plant, supplying electricity to the Oita-Beppu streetcar that was running at the time, and playing a major role in modernization. However, when the dam upstream of the waterfall was raised to ensure a more stable supply of electricity, the amount of water from the waterfall decreased and it became just a rock wall. Thanks to the wishes of local people and the efforts of the power company, construction work was carried out in 1996 to restore the waterfall to its original appearance and prevent it from collapsing, and it has been restored to its current appearance based on Sesshu's painting. ~~~~~~~ It's very interesting, isn't it?
