Explore the Ancient European City of Bologna, Italy

Bologna is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe, with old city views everywhere. Take a walk in the old town, and don't forget to find a restaurant in the city to try the local pasta. 🗼Attractions 1. Piazza del Nettuno: Built in 1566, the fountain of Neptune is located here, as well as several landmark buildings. Chiesa della Madonna di Galliera: Built in 1304, it is the seat of the Archdiocese of Bologna. Museo Civico Medievale: A museum of medieval historical relics, with sarcophagi of Bologna University teachers, medieval artworks, weapons, etc. 2. Cattedrale di San Pietro: The mother church of the Archdiocese of Bologna, built in 910. Basilica di San Petronio: One of the most famous landmarks in the city, the sixth largest church in Italy and the largest Gothic brick church in the world, built in 1390 in honor of the city's patron saint, the 5th-century bishop Petronius. 3. Le due Torri: The taller one is 97.2 meters high, and the shorter one is 48 meters high, both built in the early 12th century. When I went there, it was closed for maintenance, otherwise, you could go up the tower to visit. 4. Università di Bologna: The oldest university in the world (since 1088), with a campus covering the entire block. 5. Parco della Montagnola: In front of the park is a statue commemorating those who died in the defeat of the Austrian invaders in 1848. 6. Castello di Galliera: Built in 1331 by the papal government near the historic city walls of Bologna, it was destroyed five times by protesters. The nearby Porta Galliera was also rebuilt several times from the 13th to the 17th century. 🏁Transportation 🚄Train: There are direct trains to major nearby cities (Pisa, Florence), which can be reached in one to two hours. 🛴Walking: The city is small and suitable for exploring on foot. 🍱Dining Osteria da Fortunata: A unique pasta restaurant, with an average price of 35 euros + including staple food, meat dishes, and desserts. We had dinner and lunch here. The portions are large and filling, so it is recommended to order only one meat dish and dessert to share between two people.
