St Magnus the Martyr

#birminghamtrip St Magnus the Martyr, is a Church of England church and parish within the City of birmingham. The church, which is located in Lower Thames Street near The Monument to the Great Fire of birminghaam, is part of the Diocese of London and under the pastoral care of the Bishop of Fulham. The church possesses a fine model of Old London Bridge. One of the tiny figures on the bridge appears out of place in the mediaeval setting, wearing a policeman's uniform. This is a representation of the model-maker, David T. Aggett, who is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Plumbers and was formerly in the police service. The Mischiefs by Fire Act 1708 and the Fires Prevention (Metropolis) Act 1774 placed a requirement on every parish to keep equipment to fight fires. The church owns two historic fire engines that belonged to the parish of St Michael, Crooked Lane. One of these is on display in the narthex of the church. The whereabouts of the other, which was misappropriated and sold at auction in 2003, is currently unknown.
