Porta Sant’Agostino – Gateway to Bergamo’s Historic Heart

#mytraveldiary Porta Sant’Agostino is one of the grand entrances to Bergamo Alta, set within the mighty Venetian Walls that encircle the old city. Built in the 16th century, it once served as a key defensive gateway while today standing as a symbolic threshold between the bustling modern lower city and the timeless medieval upper town. Admission & Practical Info • Location: Southern access point to Bergamo Alta • Entry: Free to walk through and explore • Access: Easily reached on foot, by funicular, or bus from the lower city Why It’s Worth Visiting This monumental gate, with its stone arches and imposing form, preserves the character of Bergamo’s Venetian past. Passing through it, visitors experience the transition from wide boulevards into winding cobbled streets, where centuries of history unfold. Its position also offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes. Final Thoughts Porta Sant’Agostino is more than an architectural feature—it is a living reminder of Bergamo’s layered past. Crossing it marks the beginning of a memorable journey into the charm, culture, and history of the Città Alta.

Sirmione

📅 Itinerary Day1:Sirmione Day2: Bergamo Day3: Verona 🏨 Accommodation Sirmione Luxury Suite 🍴 Food Recommendations 📌 Tips Sirmione is a great little old town in the heart of Lago di Garda. you don't really need to have a plan because you can just walk through it and see everything. Check parking options beforehand if you are coming with your own car. There are so many restaurants and ice cream shops you will find at least one you like. We visited Bergamo for a quick day trip. We checked out all the important monuments and churches but the most important thing was food. You have to try straccitella ice cream when you're there. Verona is a beautiful city to see. Very romantic. You cannot avoid the aperol spritz there!!
