Sanlitun is not only known for its trendy shopping districts but also for its unique museums that offer a distinctive cultural charm amidst the bustling city. I finally had the opportunity to experience it firsthand and it was truly rewarding. 1. First Impressions of Sanlitun: Discovering the Artistic Atmosphere Upon entering Sanlitun, I was immediately captivated by the lively atmosphere. The streets were bustling with traffic and pedestrians, and various fashion stores, restaurants, and bars lined the streets. However, behind this bustling facade, there are many artistic treasures waiting to be discovered. 2. Time Museum: A Fascinating Journey Through the Ages (a) Exterior and Entrance The Time Museum is located in a corner of Sanlitun, with a simple yet distinctive exterior design. The wooden sign with the words 'Time Museum' stands out in the sunlight, as if telling the stories it holds. Upon entering the museum, the arrangement at the entrance immediately caught my eye. A large wall of old photographs showcasing different eras of Beijing instantly transported me to a world full of memories. (b) Exhibition Content 1. Time Grocery Store As soon as I entered the exhibition hall, I felt like I was in an old grocery store full of nostalgia. The shelves were filled with various old-fashioned items, from tin frog toys to vintage radios, from notebooks with Chairman Mao's quotes to retro enamel mugs. Each item carried the memories of that era. I couldn't resist picking up a tin frog, gently winding it up, and listening to its 'ribbit' sound, reminiscent of the joyful times of childhood. 2. Wonderful Time House This exhibition hall recreated realistic scenes that allowed me to experience life in different eras. Walking into an old-style courtyard room, complete with a kang bed-stove, a stove, and vintage furniture, with a portrait of Chairman Mao hanging on the wall, I felt the essence of life from that time. Sitting on the kang bed, I could almost see a family gathered together, chatting warmly. Another room simulated a barber shop from the 1980s, with a rotating tricolor pole and vintage barber chairs, evoking memories of that lively era. 3. Time Transportation Station This section showcased the development of transportation in Beijing. From the earliest rickshaws to old bicycles, and to modern transportation tools, each exhibit witnessed the changes of the times. I was particularly drawn to an old bicycle, its weathered frame and simple structure seemed to tell stories of the past. In this exhibition hall, I also experienced the fun of simulating driving an old car, feeling the unique charm of driving in that era. (c) Interactive Experiences The Time Museum not only had rich exhibits but also many interesting interactive experiences. In an interactive photo area, I could choose different era costumes and backgrounds to take my own retro photos. There was also a small handicraft area where I made a bookmark with a touch of the era as a souvenir of this visit. 3. Other Featured Venues (a) Art Exhibitions in China Zun Near Sanlitun, China Zun often hosts various high-end art exhibitions. I was fortunate to visit a modern art exhibition, where the works were diverse, including paintings, sculptures, and installations. These works were full of creativity and imagination, allowing me to feel the unique charm of modern art. During the exhibition, I also participated in an artist-guided tour, which gave me a deeper understanding of the works through interaction with the artists. (b) Art Installations in Taikoo Li Sanlitun Taikoo Li Sanlitun is a trendy commercial district, but it also hides many art installations. In the corners and squares of the streets, unique art pieces can be seen, complementing the commercial environment and adding an artistic atmosphere to the entire district. I particularly liked a large art installation made of colorful light bulbs. When lit up at night, the lights twinkled beautifully, attracting many tourists to stop and take photos. 4. Summary and Impressions This museum experience in Sanlitun allowed me to deeply feel the diverse charm of this city. In the bustling commercial district, these museums and art exhibitions are like shining pearls, emitting unique light. They not only let us understand the history and culture of Beijing and the development of modern art but also provide a space to relax and enjoy art. Whether it's the nostalgic exhibits in the Time Museum or the high-end art exhibitions in China Zun, they all gave me a deeper understanding and love for this city.
