Forbidden City Or the Forbidden City, meaning "Purple Forbidden City", is the imperial palace from the middle of the Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty. It was built from 1406 to 1420. It took only 14 years to build. The total area is 450 rai or about 720,000 square meters. It is 961 meters wide from north to south and 753 meters long from west to east. There are 980 buildings, 9,999 rooms, 75 throne halls, libraries, pavilions, flower gardens, activity areas, and secret rooms. Each building is connected by a walkway. The Forbidden City is surrounded by a moat and a large brick wall as high as 11 meters. In the past, this palace was a restricted area that was strictly forbidden to the public or high-ranking officials. Special permission was required, which is why it was called the "Forbidden City". The emperor would reside in the palace, isolating himself from the outside world. And there will be 9,000 concubines, 70,000 eunuchs, and many courtiers to entertain the emperor at all times.
