Liuli Pagoda of the Zhaomiao Temple

#travelinginchina The mysterious Liuli Pagoda of the Zhaomiao Temple in Jingyi Garden, Xiangshan, Beijing, also known as the Liuli Wanshou Pagoda, is an important historical relic in Xiangshan Park. It is located on the back mountain to the west of Xiangshan Zhao Temple and was built in the 45th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1780) to welcome the sixth Panchen Lama to the capital. The glazed pagoda is about 30 to 40 meters high. It is a seven storey octagonal pavilion style solid tower. The tower base is an octagonal Xumizuo. There are 81 glazed Buddha niches on the tower body. Each floor is built with yellow, green, purple and blue glazed components into columns, arches, arch of wooden architecture, architraves and eaves rafters. The tower is supported by an eight sided umbrella shaped glazed tile roof, and below it is an eight sided stone tower base, with Buddha statues carved on each side. The corridor formed by stairs inside the tower can be climbed, and copper bells are tied under each octagonal eave. The gentle breeze blows, and the bell sounds clear and pleasant. Ta Cha is made of huge glass beads, which are exceptionally majestic and spectacular. It witnessed the historical changes of the Qing Dynasty and carried rich cultural connotations, both in terms of historical value and architectural aesthetics, which are breathtaking. In 1860, it was burned down by the British and French coalition forces, and wooden buildings and stone Buddha statues were destroyed. In 1965, it was renovated and restored to its original state. It is now a landmark building of Xiangshan Park. The photo was taken in summer.
