Palace Museum The Gallery of Clock: Suprerior Exibition

#chinatravelitinerary The Palace Museum has a large collection of exquisite clocks and watches, most of which were made in the 18th to 19th centuries, covering clocks made in China and made in Europe. Number and types of collections The Palace Museum has a collection of more than a thousand clocks and watches. There are many kinds of these clocks, including ringing clocks, spherical rotating clocks, imperial clocks of the Qing Dynasty, pictographic clocks and mini clocks.Among them, the ringing clock is delicately designed and can automatically tell the time or play music on time; the spherical rotating clock indicates the time through the rotation of the earth, which is both practical and highly ornamental; the imperial clocks of the Qing Dynasty were dedicated to the royal family, reflecting the level of clock-making technology at that time. Historical background and cultural value The collection of clocks and watches in the Forbidden City has a long history. Many clocks and watches were manufactured in Guangzhou, Suzhou and the palace manufacturing offices during the Qianlong and Jiaqing dynasties, and some came from the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland and other countries. Clocks and watches made in China are mostly decorated with gold, beads, jade, and precious stones, and their shapes simulate pavilions, pagodas, etc.; While clocks and watches made in Europe mostly simulate Western buildings, cars and horses. These clocks not only have a timing function, but also display time through various mechanical devices, such as automatic opening and closing of doors, robot dancing, Qin and drums, etc., showing the superb craftsmanship and artistic charm of the time. Exhibition location and visit information The Clock and Clock Museum of the Forbidden City is located in the Fengxian Hall. It is open from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm from Tuesday to Sunday, and closed all day on Monday. The ticket price is 10 yuan. After visiting the main palace, visitors can take time out to visit the clock and clock Museum carefully to avoid missing these exquisite works of art.
