It's not very large and exudes a strong state-owned atmosphere. If you want to find the memory of the bookstore from your childhood, this is the right place. 🌈The building where the Xisi Xinhua Bookstore is located is the historic and legendary Xisi Corner Building. The Xisi Corner Building was built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, on the occasion of Empress Dowager Cixi's 60th birthday, and it has been over 120 years since then. It is said that Empress Dowager Cixi, who was particular about appearances, deliberately imitated Qianlong and wanted to celebrate her birthday in the Summer Palace. In order to prepare for this birthday celebration, Emperor Guangxu specially allocated a huge sum of money and assigned several court ministers to handle the arrangements. The route from Xihuamen to the Summer Palace, spanning dozens of miles, was adorned with landscapes for Cixi to enjoy on her way, and the corner buildings on both sides of Xisi Road were built at that time. Now, the only building with cultural relic protection value that remains is the west side corner building where the Xisi Xinhua Bookstore is located. 🌈Twenty years ago, I used to work near here, and I have come back to revisit the old place.
