This church is so beautiful.

Xishiku Church, formerly known as the Church of the Saviour, is located at No. 33 Xishiku Street, Xicheng District, in a bustling area, yet peaceful and tranquil. When I entered the church courtyard, I felt isolated from the hustle and bustle outside, and my mood gradually calmed down. 💒Xishiku Church is one of the four major Catholic churches in Beijing that we often talk about [North Church (Xishiku Church), South Church (Xuanwumen Church), West Church (Xizhimen Church) and East Church (Wangfujing Church)]. Beitang is the most famous and was once the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Beijing for a long time. ⏰Historical changes: [Survived through many twists and turns] ✨The current Xishiku Church is not the original site. The original site was west of Ziguang Pavilion on the west bank of Zhonghai. It was built in the 42nd year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty. Because it is located at the mouth of Canchi, it is commonly known as the "Canchikou Church". ✨Xishiku was originally a group of ten warehouses located in the west of the imperial city, storing supplies for the imperial palace. In the late Qing Dynasty, the economy was stretched to the limit, so Xishiku was abandoned. ✨As the Canchikou Church was too close to the imperial palace and had a clear view of the palace, Empress Dowager Cixi was quite bothered by this. After negotiations with foreigners, she moved the church to Xishiku in the 13th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign. 📮In 1900, foreign powers were rampant on Chinese soil, arousing widespread resentment among the Chinese people. The Boxer Movement continued to rise and grow. Under the slogan of "Supporting the Qing and Eliminating the Foreigners", they destroyed railways, burned churches, and killed foreigners and Christians. Cixi was also happy to see this, so she allowed and supported the Boxer Rebellion. Xishiku Church was one of the targets of siege. Dozens of foreigners and thousands of Chinese believers were trapped in the church and the stalemate lasted for many days. They finally survived the catastrophe due to the invasion of the capital by the Eight-Nation Alliance. The church we see today was also restored later. 🆔Architectural features: [Rare combination of Chinese and Western styles] ✨The church has a construction area of about 2,200 square meters. The main body is a three-story Gothic building, and the outer wall is decorated with a Chinese dragon-spitting water drainage structure. The top is composed of 11 spires. ✨There is a platform in front of the church, with white marble railings on three sides. A piece of white marble is inlaid on the front of the church, engraved with the image of Jesus the Good Shepherd. ✨On both sides of the main entrance, there are two Chinese-style pavilions with yellow-roofed glazed tiles. Inside the pavilions are two Chinese-style stone lions, a stele of the imperial edict for the relocation of the Catholic Church in the 14th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty, and a stele of the Catholic Church in Manchu and Han languages. There is Our Lady's Mountain on the east side of the church. ✨The stained glass windows of the church are also quite oriental in style, with many Chinese-style buildings and Chinese figures. 👉For more information about the past and present of Xishiku Church and travel guide, please refer to:
