Bathen House Boutique Hotel.

We visited Bathen House's new restaurant, Bouvardia, on a Thursday evening for dinner. The hotel has recently been renovated, and has been finished to a very high standard. We were warmly greeted by Nic, and shown to the restaurant. Elegantly designed, with large tables set for two, we sat at the window. One really good thing is that the tables aren't crammed in, there's a lot of space between the guests, which is something I really like, because it's really uncomfortable when you're almost part of another table's conversation because you're so close together. There is a simple menu with three options for each course, one of which is vegan. To start, we chose Seared Scallop and Crispy Duck Breast. Both dishes arrived promptly, and were delicious. The accompanying asparagus served with the duck was fantastic, and just "pops" when you bite into it. The scallops are soft and plump, and served with local black pudding and crispy pancetta. For our main course we chose Braised Beef with Potato Rosti and Monkfish wrapped in Pancetta. Again both dishes did not disappoint. Generous portions and beautiful presentation. The beef dish is rich and hearty, served on a crispy toast. The monkfish was light and delicious, served with a smooth herbed mashed potato. Although full we were tempted by the dessert menu, and opted for the Cashew Cheese and Vegan Raspberry and Blackberry Mille Feuille. both dishes were presented stunningly and made the evening perfect. The quality of the dishes at the Bourvardia restaurant is really very impressive. This restaurant has only been open about 4 weeks, so it's a secret at the moment.
