Tibidabo Mountain

Tibidabo is about 512 meters above sea level and is the highest mountain in Barcelona. It offers a magnificent view of the whole of Barcelona. There is a magnificent Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the mountain. The statue of Christ with arms outstretched stands on the top of the church. You can look down at the whole city. To get to Tibidabo, first take the subway in the city center to the cable car station Peu del Funicular, then take the cable car from Vallvidrera Inferior to Vallvidrera Superior on the mountainside, and then take a bus to reach the top of the mountain. In fact, it takes less than an hour to get to the top of the mountain from the city, but you have to change transportation several times to get there. The main landmark of Mount Tibidabo is the magnificent Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor), a Roman Catholic basilica whose dome is identical to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and is the focal point of the entire church. The 8-meter-high Sacred Heart of Christ was made between 1934 and 1935, but it was used when the Civil War broke out, so a new Sacred Heart of Christ was made based on the original, 7.5 meters high, and inaugurated in 1961.
