2023 Small Town Pig Peace and Strange Stories-Baoshan Bajie Temple

Bajie Temple is located in Xizhuang Village, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. It is famous for enshrining Zhu Bajie. It is also known as the Hometown of Zhu Bajie. It has a history of more than 600 years and is said to have existed before the Ming Dynasty writer Wu Chengen created Journey to the West. And because of the recent hit in film and television series, it has become very famous, and tourists often come to visit when they travel to Baoshan City. This temple was built more than 600 years ago and is still visited by many people. It is said that pilgrims come here to pray for peace and health, and it is even more effective to pray for marriage. Every year on the 23rd day of the lunar calendar, Bajie Temple holds a temple fair. Thousands of residents from the village and mountainous areas gather here to pray for peace, making it quite lively. This tradition has been a grand event for 600 years, with constant incense burning. There are three thousand-year-old banyan trees in front of Bajie Temple, named the Three Fate Trees, representing Mr. Pig, Miss Gao from Xizhuang, and Monk Tang’s three fates. It takes 4 or 5 people to hug the trunk of the giant trees. The trees have lush branches and leaves, like three giant umbrellas, blocking the sun and protecting the residents. During the hot summer, it is a good place for local residents to cool off and relax after dinner. Traffic tips: 1. This area is located in the northeast corner of Baoshan City, more than ten kilometers away from the urban area. Drive on National Highway 320 (also Yongchang Road) to the south. After leaving the urban area and crossing the viaduct, you will reach Banqiao Town and Qinglong Street (turn right to reach Banqiao Ancient Town). Then turn left and drive on a single line for about 3 kilometers to reach Bajie Temple. 2. Independent travelers can take bus No. 5 on Yongchang Road and get off at the next stop, Qixian Village, Banqiao Town. Go forward about ten meters, turn left, get off the elevated road and walk about 2 kilometers to arrive. On the way back, you can take bus No. 23 from the Reclining Buddha Temple stop in front of Bajie Temple to Banqiao Town and change to bus No. 5 to return to the city. suggestion: 1. Bajie Temple and Banqiao Ancient Town are in the same direction. You can visit Bajie Temple in the afternoon (about half an hour), and then visit Qinglong Ancient Street in Banqiao Town in the evening (about 2 hours). 2. Admission to both places is free. Travelers traveling independently from Bajie Temple can take bus No. 23 for the return trip. The bus runs approximately once an hour, and there are no buses after 19:00 in summer. There is no bus on route 5 after 20:00. The return trip cost about ¥30. 3. Banqiao Qinglong Ancient Street will only open for business and see crowds after 6pm. #LocalTour #FeaturedRecommendations
