Royal Monastery and the Temple of King Rama III

🏘 Wat Ratcha Orasaram Ratchaworawihan, a first-class royal monastery, was originally named Wat Chom Thong. Later, Prince Jessadabodindra (King Rama III) renovated and established it as a royal temple. During his military campaign to intercept the Burmese forces at the Three Pagodas Pass, he stopped at this temple to rest and performed a ritual according to ancient war strategies, praying for victory in the campaign. 🏘 It turned out that no Burmese forces advanced. Upon returning, he restored and dedicated the temple as a royal monastery, renaming it Wat Ratcha Orasaram. It became the temple of King Rama III. Key highlights and attractions within the temple include: 🏠 The main ordination hall (Ubosot): This architectural structure marked the transition from traditional styles to "Royal Preference" style, blending Thai and Chinese art. It houses the principal Buddha image, Phra Buddha Anantakun Adulyanabophit, a large bronze Buddha statue in a meditative posture, the first Buddha image established by King Rama III. ⛺ The reclining Buddha hall (Viharn Phra Buddha Saiyas): This hall enshrines the large reclining Buddha image, Phra Buddha Saiyas Narachanin Chinsakaya Borom Somdet Sanphet Buddha Bophit. 🏚 The standing Buddha hall (Viharn Phra Yuen): This building has no surrounding corridors and enshrines a standing Buddha image in the posture of granting forgiveness, made of bronze.
