When art, architecture and history collide in a space of faith, “The Engineers”: Doors of Time and Enduring Legends by Cole Lu “The Engineers” is a conversation between the past, present and future through an installation that questions the role of “engineers” as creators and shaping the social structure of humanity. The artist explores this issue through two large door sculptures made of neem wood and linen, burned to create traces, as evidence of stories carved in the dimension of time. In a world where history is recorded and told through different perspectives, the artist uses fire as a medium to create traces, like a flame that illuminates the memory of humanity. Her artwork is a journey back to the beginning of storytelling, before social structures, religions or even beliefs were shaped. The artist presents the concept of “doors” not just physical structures, but symbols of transition, crossing boundaries between dimensions or even traveling through time. These two doors are arranged in a way that resembles the “entrance” of a sacred space in a temple, reflecting the “channel” that opens to the cycle of birth and death that never ends. It also encourages a new interpretation of “home” and the meaning of the place we call home.
