Wat Phra Kaew

Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, commonly known as Wat Phra Kaew, is a temple within the Grand Palace. It is similar in style to Wat Phra Si Sanphet in the ancient palace of Ayutthaya. King Rama I ordered the construction of Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram along with the Grand Palace and the establishment of Rattanakosin in 1782. The temple was intended to house the Emerald Buddha and serve as a place for royal religious ceremonies. Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram does not have resident monks as it only consists of the Phutthawat (Buddhist temple) section and lacks the Sanghawat (monastic) section.
