Wat Rakhang Khositaram Woramahawihan

This temple is an old temple built during the Ayutthaya period. Originally named Wat Bang Wa Yai, during the Thonburi period, King Taksin of Thonburi built a palace near Wat Bang Wa Yai and elevated it to a royal temple and the residence of the Supreme Patriarch. During the Rattanakosin period, under the reign of King Rama I, Wat Bang Wa Yai was under the patronage of the royal family of Wang Lang, specifically Princess Thepsuthavadi (Sa), the elder sister of King Rama I and the mother of the Prince of Boworn Sathan Phimuk. She had a residence next to the temple and, together with King Rama I, restored the temple. During the restoration, a bell was discovered, which was moved to Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram, and five replacement bells were made for Wat Bang Wa Yai. The temple was then renamed 'Wat Rakhang Khositaram' to commemorate the discovery of the bell and to revive the tradition from the Ayutthaya period when there was also a temple named Wat Rakhang. During the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV), the temple's name was changed to 'Wat Ratchakhandiyaram' (Khandi means bell), but this name was not popularly used, and it continued to be called Wat Rakhang.
