Royal Glory of Bangkok

#bangkoktrip The Royal Palace (Grand Place) is one of the main attractions of Bangkok and an iconic place for the whole of Thailand. Even if you are only in Bangkok for 1 day, be sure to visit the Royal Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha located in it. You will get an idea of Thai history and culture. The royal palace began to be built at the end of the XVIII century, when King Rama I moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok. Such a grandiose event naturally required a grandiose palace ensemble. The wooden palace and the surrounding buildings were completed in three years. They were surrounded by a wall with a length of almost 2 km. At the same time, the king ordered the construction of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, intended for personal worship. After the construction was completed, the coronation ceremony of Rama I took place in the new Palace. Subsequent generations of kings of Thailand rebuilt the palace, replacing wooden buildings with stone ones, expanding and decorating them. At the moment, the complex includes 95 pagodas and covers an area of about 200,000 sq.m. The main attractions of the ensemble of the Grand Royal Palace are the Royal Library, the Royal Pantheon, the Golden Stupa and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Many tourists come to see only the Emerald Buddha, who is considered the main defender of Thailand. Royal Library (Phra Mondor) — it contains sacred manuscripts written on palm leaves. The temple is closed for internal inspection. Immediately behind it is another interesting object — a scaled-down replica of the Cambodian temple of Angkor Wat. The copy is very accurate, executed with amazing skill. It is also worth paying attention to the Queen Sirikit Museum, a textile museum. It will be interesting here, first of all, for women, since almost all the official dresses of the Queen are collected in the museum. In addition, you can see how real Thai silk fabric is made. The opening hours of the palace complex are from 8:30 to 15:30. The Grand Royal Palace in Bangkok is open all year round. It may be closed during public holidays or for special events.
