Kai Tie Temple

Wat Kai Tia is a temple of the people, belonging to the Mahanikaya sect, located on the west bank of Khlong Bangkok Noi in Taling Chan Subdistrict, Taling Chan District, Bangkok. The temple grounds are almost surrounded by a canal. Wat Kai Tia is involved in the procession of the Buddha's relics or the tradition of pulling the Buddha image, which began at Wat Nang Chi Chotikaram. There are two sources of information on the history of the temple. The National Office of Buddhism states that Wat Kai Tia was built around 2320 B.E. in the late Thonburi period, while the history of the temple, both by the Department of Religious Affairs and the temple, states that Chao Phraya Ratana Phiphit (Son), Samuha Nayok, the ancestor of the Sonthirat family, built it during the reign of King Rama I. Some say that it was renovated during the reign of King Rama I. However, the biography and writings of Somdet Krom Phra Paramanuchitchinorot state that the builder was Phra Narinthra Ratchaseni (Phuen), the father of Thanpuying On, the wife of Chao Phraya Ratana Phiphit. The temple underwent a major development in 1968. The buildings were renovated and the temple was redesigned. The original chapel built in the early Rattanakosin period was demolished because it was made of wood and had rotted. A new concrete chapel was built.
