Phra Borommathat Ban Tak Temple

Wat Phra Borommathat Ban Tak, Tak Province The pagoda is a replica of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Burma. It is beautifully golden and is the pagoda for those born in the Year of the Horse. Inside the temple is Luang Por Tan Jai, a sacred Buddha image of Tak Province. There is a legend about Phra Chao Tan Jai that it was completed in just one day and is said to be truly sacred. This can be seen from the fact that there are many Phra Chao Tan Jai at many temples. However, the most revered one is here at Wat Phra Borommathat. The pagoda was created by Phra Khru Phithak Borommathat (Thongyu), the abbot of Wat Phra Borommathat. He used the shape of the Shwedagon Pagoda to cover the old pagoda, which still retains its Sukhothai style. He also built 16 smaller pagodas, 16 pagodas containing Buddha images, and 6 candle-lit pagodas around the large pagoda. There is also a large Buddha image, Luang Por Tan Jai.
