Walking into the Windows desktop of Nusa Penida.

I visited Bali more than ten years ago, and the people were simple and kind back then. Over a decade later, attracted by the Windows desktop photos, I returned to Indonesia. Having explored most of Bali, this time I focused on Nusa Penida and Komodo. I have already discussed Komodo in the previous article, so I won't go into it again. But what about Nusa Penida? Besides the endless entrance fees for various attractions (it feels like every village has a thug charging you a site fee), which makes you annoyed with the locals, despite the significant tourism revenue, the island's roads are narrow and bumpy. I don't mean to criticize any country, but this is the reality. Every time you take a photo at an attraction, you have to pay (and it's charged per person). The most outrageous is the treehouse, which costs 75,000 IDR per person for just 2 minutes (about 152 TWD). Turn a corner and take another photo, and someone else charges you 50,000 IDR per person. The parking lot charges another 10,000 IDR, and using the restroom costs 5,000 IDR per person. I can't understand if the Indonesian government is regulating this at all. It seems like if you live nearby, you can become a king and charge a toll. Having traveled to so many countries, Indonesia really opened my eyes. Of course, for Westerners or wealthy people, what I mentioned above might seem like small change, and they might think I'm being stingy.
