Weekend Getaway in Baku: Local Flavour & Iconic Sights

Just back from an unforgettable weekend getaway in Baku, Azerbaijan. If you are planning a visit, here’s a perfect guide to make the most out of your trip! #travelinspiration Top Sights to Visit: - Flame Towers: Baku’s iconic skyline is dominated by these stunning towers that light up the city at night. The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking! - Baku Boulevard and Caspian Sea: Stroll along the waterfront, enjoy the breeze, and take a boar ride if you are feeling adventurous. - Old City (Icherisheher): A UNESCO World Heritage site, this ancient neighbourhood is a maze of history, with its charming cobblestone streets and architectural wonders. - Heydar Aliyev Center: Don’t miss this futuristic building designed by Zaha Hadid. It’s a masterpiece of modern architecture! But what truly made my trip unique was discovering a hidden gem… Qaynana, a cozy local restaurant that serves the most delicious traditional Azerbaijani food! The food is simply unbeatable! Try the plov, a flavourful rice dish, or dolma, grape leaves stuffed with rice and meat. It’s a true taste of Azerbaijani culture. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal after a day of sightseeing! #deliciousfood #localguides #foodie Did you know? Baku is known as the “City of Winds” because of the strong winds coming from the Caspian Sea. The wind is so strong that it’s even been nicknamed “Khazri”! So, don’t forget to pack a jacket, especially in the spring and autumn months! Tips for you trip: - Transport: The public transport system is quite affordable and easy to navigate. Taxis are also readily available, but make sure the driver uses the meter. - Language: Azerbaijani is the official language, but many people speak Russian and English especially in tourist areas. - Best time to visit: Spring (April to June) and fall (September to November) are the best times to visit Baku due to mild weather. Don’t forget to wander around and explore the local markets, enjoy the fresh air by the Caspian Sea, and experience the incredible hospitality of the locals! #baku #weekendgetaways #traveltips #explorebaku
