Bagamoyo: where the past and future dances

📍: Bagamoyo Venturing into Tanzania, let's explore Bagamoyo, a town whose name translates to "Lay down your heart" in Kiswahili… Learning about its role as the final stop for slaves before their journey to Zanzibar and beyond during the East African slave trade evoked strong emotions in me. Did I not cry like a baby while walking through to town?! Omg Established in the 8th century by people of Persian descent, Bagamoyo evolved into a bustling port and trading port - welcoming diverse communities including Arabs, Indians and Chinese before being colonised by Germany in the 18th century. The Kaole Ruins house a small museum displaying artefacts of Chinese origin - shedding light on ancient commercial ties. The site also features a magic well and several tombs. Frame 5: One oldest mosques in Tanzania and East Africa - believed to date back to the 13th century. Frame 6: Sharifa's Tomb - ssociated with a girl believed to possess healing abilities and the gift of dream interpretation. Frame 7: The old Boma constructed by the Germans in the 18th century For history enthusiasts, a day trip from Dar es Salaam to Bagamoyo is highly recommended. Getting There : To drive from Dar es Salaam to Bagamoyo, you can take the Bagamoyo Road, which is approximately a 1-2 hour drive depending on traffic and road conditions. Just head north from Dar es Salaam on the Bagamoyo Road until you reach your destination. Make sure to check current road conditions and plan your trip accordingly.
