#europetrip Athens is a city like no other—where ancient ruins stand proudly alongside bustling streets, trendy cafés, and lively markets. Spending a few days exploring the city centre was an unforgettable experience, filled with history, culture, and, of course, amazing Greek food! 🏛️ Must-Visit Historic Sites 1️⃣ Acropolis & Parthenon – The highlight of Athens! Climbing up to the Acropolis and seeing the Parthenon up close was breathtaking. The views of the city from the top are unbeatable! 2️⃣ Ancient Agora – A fascinating site that was once the heart of Athenian public life. I loved strolling among the ruins of temples and statues. 3️⃣ Temple of Olympian Zeus – One of the largest ancient temples in Greece—standing beneath the towering columns made me feel tiny! 🌿 Exploring Plaka & Monastiraki The Plaka district, also known as the “Neighborhood of the Gods,” is full of charming streets, neoclassical houses, and cute souvenir shops. Just a short walk away, Monastiraki Square is the perfect place for shopping at the famous flea market, where I found everything from handmade jewelry to vintage postcards. 🍽️ Greek Food Heaven Athens is a paradise for food lovers! Some must-try dishes: ✅ Souvlaki – The best one I had was at a small taverna in Monastiraki! ✅ Moussaka – Layers of eggplant, minced meat, and creamy béchamel—so good! ✅ Greek Yogurt with Honey & Walnuts – A simple yet delicious dessert. 🌆 Rooftop Bars & Nightlife Athens’ nightlife is vibrant, with amazing rooftop bars offering stunning Acropolis views. I had cocktails at A for Athens and later explored the bars in Psiri, a hip neighborhood full of live music and cool graffiti-covered streets. 📌 Travel Tips: ✔️ Best Time to Visit: Spring or autumn for pleasant weather & fewer crowds. ✔️ Wear Comfortable Shoes: The Acropolis and other historic sites involve lots of walking! ✔️ Public Transport: The metro is clean and efficient, but walking is the best way to explore.
