Such a large-scale walled house must cost a lot of money, which is unaffordable for ordinary people. The introduction in the scenic area says that the owner is called Chen Langting, who was born into a local peasant family and has never been to school. But it is obviously impossible to accomplish this with just one farmer. Later, I learned in the exhibition hall in the courtyard house that he was half an official and businessman, doing salt business, and later became a wealthy and powerful family. This makes sense. In the rice fields next to Tung Sang Wai is another large village, Wei Ting Wai. It was founded by Chen Langting’s younger brother Chen Shanghua during the Daoguang period. Chen Shanghua’s name was Wei Ting, so it was named Wei Ting Wai. There is also a smaller Pan'anwei, which was built during the Xianfeng period by Chen Bugao, the third son of Chen Langting. Mi Sheng Wei, located at the entrance of the scenic area, is owned by Zhong Dingfu and is the smallest Hakka square walled house in the country.
