The Cathedral of the Assumption in Almaty is the closest church in Kazakhstan to St. Basil's Cathedral, and it is also one of the few surviving tsarist-era buildings in Almaty. The church is built entirely of wood and is the second tallest wooden building in the world. The interior of the church is richly decorated with many exquisite religious paintings and decorations. Many pigeons gathered in the small square in front of the church, which together with the beautiful church became a unique landscape.
