When it comes to traveling to Yilan, in addition to the magnificent natural scenery and hot springs, the food is definitely something you cannot miss. This time, my family and I decided to have a luxurious adventure for our taste buds, and our destination was the famous "Red House Chinese Restaurant" of the Silks Place Lanzhou Hotel. This place is famous for its five-way roast duck, which is known as one of the "best roast ducks in Taiwan" and has long been at the top of my food list.
It was already noon when we arrived at the Silks Place Hotel Lancheng. Honglou Chinese Restaurant is located on the sixth floor of the hotel. The environment is elegant yet warm. From the window you can overlook the street view of Yilan city, making you feel relaxed as soon as you enter. We made a reservation online in advance for the Cherry King Duck five-course meal, because we heard that this signature dish is extremely popular and you can't eat it without a reservation! The service staff greeted us warmly and carefully introduced the menu of the day. Their professional attitude made us look forward to it.
When the main dish "Cherry Overlord Duck" was served, the duck slicing on the spot was full of ritual. The chef skillfully cuts the roasted golden and crispy duck skin into slices, and the duck meat exudes an enticing aroma that makes people unable to help but swallow their saliva. The first dish was the classic Peking Duck, served with pancakes, green onions and a special sauce. It was crispy and juicy, with a perfect blend of fat and sauce, giving me an overwhelming sense of happiness. The second dish we tried was the amazing cherry duck nigiri sushi. The small sushi was covered with shiny duck skin and paired with slightly sour rice. The taste was so delicate that it was touching. It was the highlight of the whole meal.
The next three and four dishes are shredded duck fried rice and duck bone soup. The fried rice has distinct grains, and the fragrance of the shredded duck is integrated into it, which is simple yet delicious; the duck bone soup is warm and rich, and is boiled with cabbage, which warms the stomach and the heart. The fifth and final dish was duck salad. The refreshing sauce neutralized the richness of the previous dishes, bringing the whole meal to a perfect end. The creativity and care put into this five-course meal of duck made us enjoy every dish and it didn’t feel monotonous at all.
In addition to delicious food, the service at Honglou Chinese Restaurant is also commendable. The service staff paid attention to our dining needs at all times and kindly reminded us that we could pack up the remaining duck meat!
