The broth is rich but not overly salty. The freshly brewed peanut aroma is strong; it's delicious even just drinking the soup on its own 😋 The toppings include 🦑 large shrimp, clams, and more—so fresh and delicious! ✅ Ginger duck The duck is cooked just right and isn't tough when you bite into it. Slow-simmered over low heat, it's super flavorful and gets better with every chew. If you can't finish it, you can get it packed to go; it's perfect with rice at home. ✅ Oyster omelet A very Minnan-style preparation! The oysters are quite large 🦪 The egg is pan-fried until fragrant, with crispy edges. Remember to dip it in Xiamen chili sauce; it really enhances the flavor.

Had a meal on West Street in Quanzhou once and I still can't forget it 🥹🥹 Went straight to this old shop after visiting Kaiyuan Temple. The only downside: you have to queue! The signature ginger duck and shrimp and crab congee are all winners! It truly lives up to its reputation among the locals. The shop is small, and the menu is simple! The average cost per person is under 100. The seafood tastes super authentic. The owner loves creating new dishes. The pocket shrimp buns, baked ribs with pine nuts, and sweet and spicy chicken wings are so delicious 😭 I'm not kidding! It's located near the Shapowei Twin Towers (called 📍Dayuchuan). It's not far from Yue Temple, Kaiyuan Temple, West Street Bell Tower, Confucian Temple, and Chengtian Temple.

#hotdiscussions Shapowei (沙坡尾) in Xiamen is touristy now, but I’d still say it’s worth checking out, especially if you like photographing urban neighbourhoods, cafés, street art and places with a bit of character. My take: ⭐ 8/10 What I like ❤️ The old fishing-harbour atmosphere is still visible, particularly around the waterfront. ❤️ The mix of old Minnan buildings, murals, cafés, small shops and creative spaces makes it quite photogenic. ❤️ It feels considerably more interesting than a generic commercial pedestrian street. ❤️ Sunset → evening is probably the best time: softer light, harbour views, cafés and a livelier atmosphere. ❤️ It’s free and compact, so there’s little downside if you’re already around Xiamen University. The downside: ⤵️ don’t expect a hidden village anymore. The Art West Zone in particular has been developed into a popular creative/tourist area, with cafés, shops and Instagram-friendly spots. suggested itinerary: Xiamen University → Shapowei harbour → Art West Zone → wander the side streets → dinner/drinks → sunset/night photos The key is not to just follow the obvious tourist route. Walk around the harbour and older side streets rather than spending all your time inside the Art West Zone. If you’re looking for “authentic old Xiamen”, Shapowei isn’t completely that anymore. If you’re looking for “old Xiamen mixed with young, creative Xiamen”, it’s actually one of the better places to experience that contrast.

A Minnan restaurant recommended by a friend. I took the high-speed train specifically to eat here and visited Zengcuo'an while I was at it~ The spicy seafood platter is fresh, spicy, satisfying, and very generous. You can taste abalone, oysters, shrimp, crab, and clams all in one pot. No need to struggle with choices; it satisfies everything. The oyster omelet and hot fish soup are very authentic Minnan style! Pair them with the fragrant Minnan radish and taro savory rice (highly recommend this—I ate 2 bowls); you really must order the rice! The whole meal was pure happiness. Also, plenty of locals eat here, so it's not just a tourist trap~ The taste is really good. If you come to Xiamen, this culinary experience is definitely worth it!

On this trip to Xiamen, I stumbled upon a newly opened hotel, and the experience completely exceeded my expectations. I’ve definitely found a hidden gem! 📍Location & Transport The hotel is in the heart of Xiamen Island, and the location is truly convenient. It's not far from the subway and BRT, making travel stress-free. It's a short taxi ride to Zhongshan Road, Bashi, and beach attractions, and there are plenty of restaurants downstairs, so you don't have to go far to find food. ✨Hotel Hardware & Environment The advantage of a new hotel is that everything is brand new and clean. The overall decor is minimalist and high-end. The public areas, like the lobby and hallways, are very photogenic and have a great atmosphere. 🛏Room Details The first thing I noticed when I opened the door was how clean and bright the room was—no pungent smell of new renovations. The whole room is smart-controlled. You can use voice commands for the lights and curtains, and the bathroom has a dry/wet separation design. The bedding is soft and relaxing, and the soundproofing is great. It was quiet at night, and I wasn't disturbed by hallway noise. 💁Service Experience Check-in and check-out at the front desk were fast, with no long waits. The staff were warm and polite. If you're planning to go to Xiamen, just follow this guide and don't blindly follow the crowd! ❶ Traps are everywhere, and beginners fall for them 100% of the time This is the biggest turn-off about Xiamen! It's full of hidden scams that are impossible to guard against. ▫️ The Gulangyu Island trap You must book your ferry ticket 5–7 days in advance via the official WeChat account!! Roadside drivers and scalpers saying "tickets are sold out," "you'll miss the boat," or "I have an internal channel" are all scams. They specifically try to trick you into buying expensive private boat tickets or day tour packages—you'll just be a sucker. Prices are inflated, the taste is mediocre, and there's not a hint of local character. The so-called "Minnan specialties" are basically mass-produced food with double the markup. If you want authentic, affordable Minnan flavors, don't go to the influencer streets; go straight to the Bashi Seafood Market! ❸ Summer is extremely uncomfortable, and you'll suffer from the heat the whole time Xiamen at the end of summer is really not suitable for just sightseeing!! Temperatures of 35°C+ combined with super high humidity make it suffocatingly hot and sticky. Even the sea breeze is hot; you'll be sweating all over and your hair will stick to your face after walking just a few steps. There's no shade on the beach, so even if you're covered in sunscreen, you'll easily get tanned or sunburned. You need incredible willpower to take good photos; for the average person, it's just a hot, miserable experience. Plus, it's super crowded during peak season! Gulangyu is certainly popular with tourists, but its car-free lanes, colonial-era villas and relaxed atmosphere still make it one of Xiamen’s most distinctive experiences. What makes Xiamen interesting is that much of its appeal comes from simply slowing down. Spend an afternoon around Shapowei, browse its cafés and creative spaces, stop for some local food, and take a walk along the waterfront as the city lights come on.
