Wat Donthat, Ubon Ratchathani Province
Wat Don That, Samatha-Vipassana Kammatthana, Luang Pu Sao Kantasilo, Luang Pu Man Phurithatto, and Luang Pu Dee Channo, is located on an island in the middle of the Mun River, Phibun Mangsahan District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Inside, there is a memorial pagoda and a museum of Luang Pu Sao Kantasilo. History of the temple’s construction In 1937, Phra Khru Wiwek Phutthakit (Sao Kantasilo) and Phra Ajahn Dee Chantharo (Wat Phu Khao Kaeo) came to set up a meditation camp in search of suitable land to build a meditation temple of the Thammayut Nikaya sect. They stayed occasionally at Wat Don That during 1937-1940 and in their last year, 1941, they resided at Wat Don That. Before his death in Champasak, Laos, there are still remains of his medical monuments and personal belongings, such as the wooden hut where he used to stay, which is 2.50*4.00 meters in size, raised 1.20 meters high, a stone platform for meditation, a walking path, his personal belongings and belongings, such as his robe, a sitting cloth, and a kettle. The temple agreed that it should be built as a pagoda as a memorial for Buddhists to pay homage and worship, as a place of spiritual support, and to record the conduct and practices of Phra Ajahn Sao Kantasilo, the great teacher. The pagoda base is 16*16 meters wide and 33 meters high to the top of the umbrella.
