Stay in a 22℃ forest, the perfect summer vibe
The city is already as hot as a steamer, right? I'm really tired of sweating for two hours after just five minutes outside. Let me recommend a secret summer retreat I keep to myself — an average summer temperature of only 22℃, with a super high forest coverage. Walking in the mountains, you don’t even need a fan; the natural air conditioning is fully on.
🌿 Why this place is the ultimate summer escape
The temperature is just so comfortable
By the end of June, the city is already over 30 degrees, but here the daytime highs are only around 25-26 degrees, and mornings and evenings are just in the teens or low twenties. Walking in the forest, the shade blocks the sun, and the mountain breeze carries the coolness of the stream — much more comfortable than staying in an air-conditioned room. The most amazing thing is, there are absolutely no mosquitoes here. Maybe it’s because of the low temperature, but I stayed for two days without a single bite.
The air is so good you want to take it home
What does 98% forest coverage mean? It means wherever you look, it’s all green. The negative ion content is super high; taking a deep breath feels like your lungs are being cleansed. Spending a few days here, you’ll feel your skin improve — and that’s no exaggeration.
Few people, beautiful scenery, and no commercialization
Compared to those crowded popular spots, this place is so peaceful. Walking on mountain paths, you might meet only a few people all day, hearing only birdsong and the sound of streams — very healing. Plus, the scenic area is developed very modestly, without messy commercial facilities, preserving much of its original charm.
🏞️ Must-visit hidden gems
1. Jiulong Grand Canyon
This canyon is absolutely stunning! Walking upstream along the creek, you’ll see waterfalls and deep pools all the way. The water is crystal clear, you can see the stones and little fish at the bottom. In summer, stepping into the creek with ice-cold water up to your ankles feels refreshing to the core.
There are several waterfalls in the canyon, the tallest dozens of meters high, with water cascading down and creating a big mist — standing nearby is very cool. When the sun is out, you can even see rainbows; it really feels like a fairyland.
2. Primitive Forest Trail
You must walk this trail at least once! On both sides are centuries-old trees with canopies that block out the sun completely. The ground is covered with thick fallen leaves, soft to step on, like walking on a carpet.
There are many interesting plants along the trail, and if you’re lucky, you might see little squirrels. The whole walk takes about two hours, not very strenuous, suitable for elderly and children. At the highest viewing platform, you can see the entire sea of trees — truly spectacular.
3. Alpine Heavenly Pool
At the mountain top, there’s a lake like a green gem nestled among the peaks. The water is very clear, reflecting the clouds and surrounding mountains. Meadows with wildflowers bloom beautifully in summer around the lake.
You can walk around the lake in about 40 minutes; the view changes with every angle. When it’s windy, the lake sparkles; when calm, it’s like a mirror reflecting the mountains and clouds, making it hard to tell where the sky ends and the water begins.

💡 Practical Tips
▫️ Big temperature difference in the mountains, bring a warm jacket; it’s really cool in the mornings and evenings
▫️ Wear non-slip sports shoes; some mountain paths can be slippery
▫️ Bring a raincoat; mountain weather changes quickly and it can rain suddenly
▫️ Bring a water bottle; mountain spring water is especially sweet and drinkable
▫️ Mobile signal is unstable; download offline maps in advance
▫️ More people during Dragon Boat Festival, but still much fewer than popular spots
🌙 Final thoughts
After three days in the mountains, I feel completely refreshed. Waking up to birdsong, falling asleep under the stars, no work worries, no phone distractions — just quietly being with nature. This feeling has been missing for too long.
